Many of us who have seen and felt the benefits of Reiki don't need a scientific explanation for it, although it would certainly be interesting to learn about a scientific basis. Gregg Braden has done a great deal of work in bridging science with healing and spirituality, and although not specific to Reiki, you may be interested in reading some of his books or hearing his lectures, which touch on the role of the mind and intention in the energy of miracles, and causing them to occur.

Eric,

Just out of curiosity, I would be curious to know more about this particular group within Reiki that you describe. I have seen a similar environment in other forms of energy healing, although calling them a cult would still feel too strong a term.

So, basically you're asking for someone to be able to reliably demonstrate they can tell the difference in electromagnetic fields between something that is sentient and something that is not through some kind of random sampling. To whom have you openly solicited a demonstration?

Theoretically, a skilled Reiki (or other energy) practitioner should be able to discern the difference because the energy centers (chakras) in the body respond to the energy they receive. Energy practitioners can sense or feel the response in different ways, depending on their level of sensitivity. However, all things either give off or reflect back energy (i.e., wood tends to absorb energy whereas metal will conduct it) so that could present a challenge to a less sensitive or experienced practitioner, who may only feel the effects of the energy moving. That doesn't mean Reiki doesn't work or that the energy isn't being transferred.

I can appreciate the desire for a scientific explanation, and as I pointed out in my post, there are people who are dedicating time to examine energy healing from a scientific perspective. I think there are some areas of scientific inquiry that are still in their infancy and the ability to answer definitively how Reiki works may evolve as those inquiries are resolved too.

Personally, I'm comfortable with feeling like I don't have to prove anything - I straddle the analytical and the intuitive worlds in equal fashion. However, if there are any Reiki practitioners out there who are willing to take you up on your demonstration, I'd surely be interested to see the outcome!

Best regards,
Dana

I'm sure for many groups within Reiki it is not. A person I talked to described a whole cult like environment down to 10's of thousands to learn mumbo jumbo.
Converting this TT skeptic of 12 years would only take an hour. In these years I have openly solicited for someone to just demonstrate using the sense part of reiki tt to tell the difference between something inanimate and human by energy field alone. Why can't I find someone to do this simple test that could move TT into the realm of the proven?
